NATRUE guidelines for Rivaana

When I decided to develop a cream, I had absolutely nothing – no knowledge of cosmetic legislation, no insight into consumer needs and no idea how far sustainability could be extended in the production of cosmetics. During each phase of the development process, I learned something new. It started with the collaboration with the laboratory that works exclusively with natural products and according to the strict guidelines of NATRUE. I therefore started to delve into what NATRUE stands for and discovered that their values ​​​​matched perfectly with my own vision. And that gave me the confirmation that I was on the right track with developing products, Future-proof.

In the world of skincare, natural products have become increasingly popular. Consumers are becoming more critical and transparent, and for good reason, they are looking for ingredients that are good for their skin and the planet. One of the most important organizations that stands up for these values ​​is NATRUE, an internationally recognized quality mark that sets strict requirements for natural and organic cosmetics. But what exactly does NATRUE mean, and how does Rivaana Skincare fit into this picture?

What is NATRUE?
NATRUE was founded in 2007 in response to the growing demand for natural and organic products. The goal of this non-profit organization is to help consumers recognize real, natural personal care products and to combat greenwashing, where products are falsely presented as 'natural'.

NATRUE uses a system for approving products, which divides products into three categories:

1.Natural cosmetics : contains only 100% natural ingredients.

2. Natural cosmetics with organic content : contains 100% natural ingredients with a minimum share of 70% organic ingredients.

3.Biocosmetics: contains 100% natural ingredients with a minimum share of 95% of organic ingredients.

Did you know that a product can be called 'natural' if it contains only one natural ingredient? And did you know that the ingredient list of a product is structured from high to low? The ingredient that is present in the largest quantity is listed first, while the ingredient that is present in the smallest quantity is listed last.

How Rivaana Skincare fits into the NATRUE philosophy
Rivaana Skincare was founded from my personal experience with my son’s skin problems. When I started looking for the right products for people with atopic eczema, some core values ​​were already established. I wanted to offer high-quality, natural products that soothe and protect the skin without harmful chemicals. This fitted in seamlessly with NATRUE’s core values.

1. Natural and organic ingredients
   At Rivaana, we use pure, natural ingredients such as baobab oil, shea butter, oat extracts and rosehip oil, which are known for their soothing and healing properties. Each product is carefully formulated to gently nourish the skin, without synthetic additives that can irritate the skin – exactly what NATRUE strives for.
   
   
2. Sustainability and fairness
   Like NATRUE, we believe in sustainable and transparent production. We work with local cooperatives in Africa that provide employment to women in rural areas. This collaboration not only supports the community, but also ensures that we can deliver the highest quality ingredients that are produced in a fair way.
   
   
3. No unnecessary chemicals
   Harsh chemicals like corticosteroids can damage the skin in the long run, something I have seen first-hand with my son. Rivaana Skincare aims to provide an alternative with products that naturally try to prevent inflammation and irritation. Our focus on preventative care aligns well with NATRUE guidelines, which emphasize a ban on harmful and unnatural ingredients.
   
   
4. Environmentally friendly packaging
   Rivaana also strives to be as sustainable as possible in terms of packaging. We choose recyclable packaging materials and minimize the use of plastic, in line with NATRUE standards. Our pots are made of Sulapac; a biodegradable material.
